Memorial Day often marks the beginning of summer fun, and also gives us a moment to remember those who we have lost in service to our country.
Sienna created a patriotic line with stars, hearts, and lots of red white and blue, in special honor of Staff SGT Joseph Francesco Michael Curreri, who lived September 23, 1980 – October 26, 2007. Sienna’s mom Rory and Joe’s sister Shannon were college classmates, swim teammates and roommates. We are honored to remember him and to be able to share his story. Please read more about him below.
25% of proceeds from Sienna’s Memorial Day sale went to support the Special Operations Warrior Foundation in honor of Joe – Sienna rounded up a bit… and was able to donate $200 from her sales!

Staff SGT Joseph Francesco Michael Curreri
September 23, 1980 – October 26, 2007

Staff Sergeant Joseph Francesco Michael Curreri died on October 26, 2007 while serving on a remote island of the Philippines as a Green Beret in the Army’s 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion. Local and U.S. servicemen alike admired Staff SGT Curreri for his leadership and warm heart. Following his death, Filipino marines and U.S. servicemen renamed a helicopter landing zone in Staff SGT Curreri’s name. Although his death was accidental, his decision to enlist in the Army was no accident.
Staff SGT Curreri was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland where he excelled in swimming and graduated from Loyola Blakefield High School with a keen interest in U.S. and European history and literature. Staff SGT Curreri went on to attend the University of Southern California where he excelled as a history student and was a four-year varsity letter winner in swimming. He was elected captain of the Trojan swimming team for the 2001-2002 season and served as Executive Vice President of the Student-Athlete Academic Council in 2000-2001.
The events of September 11, 2001 prompted Joe to enlist in the Army after he graduated from USC. He went on to receive the Distinguished Honor Graduate award in Basic Training, attended Airborne School and was selected for Special Forces training in 2005. He studied Mandarin Chinese and graduated as the Distinguished Honor Graduate in the Combat Diver Qualification Course in early 2007.
Staff SGT Curreri was a voracious reader whose goal was to earn a doctorate in history and spend his later years “teaching our next generation the unique and exceptional history of the United States.”
